The taskforce is empowered to study the ramifications of growth of membership at UUWC. It reports directly to the UUWC Council.
We had our 1st meeting on November 12th. Present were Rev. Nancy, Wendy, Laurel, Grace and myself (Kathy Wright). I will submit a report on all the ideas discussed in a separate email. We are seeking an email vote by the Council today on our 1st proposal.
Effective December 7th, everyone will enter the building for the service through the Social Hall. The greeters will be there, visitors will sign in and get their name tags there. People will then go down the hallway to the sanctuary where another greeter will help seat people.
The Sanctuary sign on the building will be covered and an Exit sign placed on the Sanctuary doors. Welcome and Entrance signs will be placed on or near the Social Hall door. By using the Social Hall door as the entrance for the service, it will allow more room for the greeters to perform their duties, allow people to visit in the social hall instead of the Sanctuary (and have a cup of coffee!) and reduce the noise level in the Sanctuary when people arrive late. The kitchen staff support this change and will make a larger pot of coffee!
The result of this change will be the ability to add more chairs for people in the Sanctuary, thus increasing the seating capacity in the Sanctuary. Seven chairs will be along the wall where the greeters table was located. We can continue to place a row of chairs behind the last pew near the Exit doors. If the large white sound box can be reduced in size, a few more chairs can be placed there.
This is only the 1st step being recommended by the task force. It is the quickest one that can be implemented immediately with no cost to the congregation. Please enter your vote of yea or nay ASAP. THANKS!
